Genetic Counsellors Appreciation Day
Genetic counsellors are health professionals with specialized training in medical genetics and counselling. They work as part of a healthcare team to support people and families who may have questions about inherited conditions, genetic testing, or the role genetics may play in their health. Genetic counsellors help explain complex genetic information in clear, understandable ways, providing information about the nature, inheritance, and possible implications of genetic conditions, Their purpose is to help individuals make informed medical and personal decisions that are right for them.
Thursday, Nov. 12 is Genetic Counsellors Awareness/Appreciation Day, an annual event that honours the compassion, leadership and expertise of genetic counsellors everywhere. This year’s celebration highlights how genetic counsellors connect with their communities and institutions, helping patients and the public better understand the critical role they play in health care.
