Reporting and Filing Claims

Anyone can report unsafe conditions at a workplace. You don’t have to be employed there to do so.

If you’re injured at work or witness or face a traumatic incident, you should report it to your supervisor, then immediately file a claim with WCB (for physical or psychological injuries).

Report Unsafe Work

Reporting unsafe work is available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. In an emergency, always call 911 immediately. You can report unsafe work by either:

  • calling WSH Client Services
    1-855-957-SAFE (7233) (toll-free in Manitoba)
    204-957-SAFE (7233) (in Winnipeg)
    Select ‘Option 1’
  • submitting a complaint by email at wshcompl@gov.mb.ca

When placing a call to WSH you may remain anonymous. Follow-up actions are dependent on the nature of the complaint.

Report a Serious Incident

When a serious incident occurs at a workplace, the employer is required to notify the Workplace Safety and Health Branch (WSH) of the incident immediately, and by the fastest means of communication available.

File an Injury Claim with WCB

When you report a physical or psychological injury to WCB, you will be given a claim number and the name and telephone number of the adjudicator who will handle your claim.

The adjudicator is the WCB staff person who will work with you on your claim and the person you should call if you have questions.

If you have to pay for any medication or other expenses related to your injury, keep your original receipts and advise your adjudicator. The WCB may cover these expenses.

If you or a member of your family is having trouble dealing with the effects of your injury, call the WCB Distress Line, 24/7. It’s free and confidential.
