As a Manitoban, I am grateful for everything you do to support our well-being.
This week, I want to recognize your commitment to patients, clients and residents. Thank you, on behalf of all MAHCP staff, for your specialized work at the very foundation of the health-care system. You are educated, knowledgeable, credible, reliable and trustworthy, and you make a significant difference in people’s lives.
I also want to acknowledge the challenges of working in Manitoba’s health-care system. I’ve seen a lot of changes over the course of my career: everything from practice and program changes to ongoing structure and leadership changes. The health-care system seems to be in a constant state of flux, which in and of itself, is stressful and makes it very difficult to do all that you do. Then, add to that, the many years you worked without a contract, the increasing pressure of social issues, and the stress associated with overwork and vacancies.
I understand the culture changes our government has promised may not yet be evident to you. It’s my job to ensure government is held to account for their commitments: to transform a toxic workplace culture, to improve recruitment and retention efforts, and to implement long-term human resource planning. I want you all to know that it’s my intention to ensure their accountability.
MAHCP works hard every day to influence, recommend and demand much-needed health-care system improvements on behalf of our members. Over the past two years we’ve accomplished much together, but we have a lot more to do. As the allied health sector, we must work collectively to make improvements.
Our goal this week is to help Manitobans appreciate that allied health professionals are on their care path, every step of the way. From the roadside to the hospital room to diagnostic and lab testing, from birth to death and in a crisis, whether mental, spiritual or physical, in the community, in the most remote area of the province, or in the busiest emergency room, allied health professionals are there, providing specialized care and improving quality of life.
Now go enjoy the 2024 Allied Health Week campaign activities we have planned for you. Get started by entering our contests, nominating deserving teammates, and reading some new member profiles on our website. And be sure to follow us on social media and share our posts. Happy Allied Health Professionals Recognition Week to all allied health sector employees!
