For more than 22 years, Stephanie Hruska, a Pharmacy Assistant at Deer Lodge Centre (DLC), has made a difference in the health-care system.
As a Pharmacy Assistant, Stephanie is involved in all aspects of medication distribution at DLC, ensuring the facility is always stocked and ready to meet patient needs.
“Depending on the rotation, we can be ordering and receiving medications, working with a Pyxis machine to pick, refill, and deliver medications, refilling and picking narcotics, or packaging medications with the Euclid machine and Medi-Dose system.”
After working in accounting for years, Stephanie’s passion for helping others drove her to pursue a career in health care. Years later, while delivering medications at HSC, she knew she made the right decision when she saw firsthand how her profession impacts patient care.
“I saw one of the kids from the floor going home, and the family was so happy,” she said. “Even though we’re just in charge of delivering medications, that moment reminded me that I was part of helping that child leave the hospital healthy and happy.”
When she’s not busy making a difference at work, Stephanie enjoys cheering on her three kids in their various sports, including hockey, baseball, and university volleyball.
March is Pharmacy Appreciation Month!
While most of their work is done behind the scenes, pharmacy teams are critical to high-quality patient care. They make sure medications are used effectively, contribute to leading edge research, and help patients transition smoothly from hospital/health facility to home.
MAHCP is proud to represent more than 500 members within the pharmacy field, working in hospitals and health-care facilities in Manitoba. Thank you for all that you do to help patients access the treatments they need!
