With words of encouragement and warm smiles, members of the Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals, their families and friends handed out food and drinks to participants of the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Lace Up for Team Diabetes run/walk at Assiniboine Park on Sunday, May 24, 2015.
Our volunteers wore the green MAHCP T-shirts that were hard to miss on a gorgeous, hot and sunny morning. Participants in the run/walk said they were thankful for the volunteers’ efforts.
“We have a close relationship with the Canadian Diabetes Association, we believe in the work they do and this was a way to show our appreciation,” said MAHCP President Bob Moroz, who also volunteered along with his daughter Quinn.
“I thank all of our volunteers for their hard work, I know from my conversations with Canadian Diabetes Association officials that they love having MAHCP on board.”
Bob also had a special thank you for Shelley Kowalchuk, for her excellent coordination of the volunteers, and a huge congratulations on behalf of MAHCP to member Christine Unruh, who won a medal in the 5K!
In a message on the MAHCP Facebook page, Andrea Kwasnicki, regional director at the Canadian Diabetes Association, said “Thank you to MAHCP for your support and for being part of our success!”
Leftovers of the food, which Superstore originally donated, was given to Winnipeg Harvest on Monday. Bob delivered the items, mostly fruit and bagels, to Harvest and said it came in at about 140 pounds. Other items were given to the Canadian Diabetes Association for an upcoming event they were hosting.
