Home > News & Events > MOA on Health Care Staff Redeployment Reached

Late last week, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was reached among MAHCP, other health care unions and Employer representatives regarding the Employer’s need to redeploy staff in order to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic as the situation evolves in Manitoba. Please be advised that the MOA Redeployment of Staff COVID-19 is now in effect.

MOAs are commonplace in preparation for events such as natural disasters and pandemics. MAHCP worked closely with other health care unions to ensure that your rights are protected and that any member who is temporarily transferred within or between facilities and/or employer organizations will receive additional compensation to cover costs related to travel, meals and hotel accommodations as needed.

It is important to note that the MOA ensures the terms of your current collective bargaining agreement will continue to apply if you are redeployed.

Please take the time to read and familiarize yourself with the MOA, and be sure to contact your Labour Relations Officer with any questions or concerns.

MAHCP is not aware of any immediate plans for large-scale redeployment of staff, however we know the situation is evolving rapidly and may already be affecting some members.

This is a challenging time. Our members are concerned, and not only for your own welfare and that of your patients or clients.

You’re also dealing with planned school closures, child and elder care issues, grocery shortages and a general sense of unease, at times verging on panic in the populace at large.

We work in health care and are accustomed to keeping a level head in stressful situations, but current challenges can seem overwhelming. Please know that MAHCP is here to support you.

In solidarity,

Bob Moroz

MAHCP President
