Dear MAHCP members,

As we head into the Labour Day long weekend, the MAHCP Nominations Committee would like to inform our members as to the process and important dates regarding the 2016 Presidential Election.

Our staff has been hard at work getting all of the paper information out to the membership, and now that the Canada Post potential strike/lockout has been averted, we’re certain that there will be no more impediments to this election process.

For items that we have sent out up to now, the feedback that we have received is that delivery has been spotty. We believe this is likely an issue related to the long negotiations process at Canada Post and ask for your patience. Also, we will do our best to have as much information as possible available electronically, via the www.mahcp.ca website.

There are three candidates running in the 2016 Presidential Election, listed below by order of last name:

  • Janet Fairbairn
  • Shelley Kowalchuk
  • Bob Moroz

The candidates’ bios have been mailed out, but if you’d like to read them immediately, they can be found at the following link: https://mahcp.ca/?p=3139

Electronic voting will open September 9 at 12 A.M. (which is overnight from September 8 to 9, 2016) and close September 14 at 11:59 p.m. for clarity.

Paper ballot voting will close September 19 at 4 p.m. There is no opening date, as we are mailing the ballots out starting tomorrow, September 2, and therefore the membership will get the paper ballots depending on mail delivery times.

Also, a quick reminder that the 2016 Presidential Candidates’ Debate takes place from 5-6 pm on September 7 in the Ambassador A room at the Canad Inns Destination Centre HSC in Winnipeg. For those who live out-of-town or are unable to attend, a video of the debate will be posted to the MAHCP website and Facebook page on September 8.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email mahcppresidentialdebate2016@gmail.com.

Thank you all so much,

James Stevenson

Chair, Nominations Committee
