The 46th Annual General Meeting of the Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals was held on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, in Winnipeg with teleconference sites in Thompson, Flin Flon, Snow Lake and The Pas.

At this meeting, it was confirmed that Bob Moroz was re-elected as President of MAHCP.  The numerical results, which were released to the members in attendance that evening, are as follows:

Bob Moroz – 451
Shelley Kowalchuk – 392
Janet Fairbairn – 182

It was a very well-attended AGM with over 150 members participating in the proceedings, socializing and, of course, winning prizes throughout the evening.  Our first AGM Selfie Contest was a terrific success and we would like to thank everyone who made this into such a fun evening.

New Vice President

On Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, Executive Council held their first meeting of the year.  During this meeting, Jodi Kent was acclaimed as Secretary and Chad Harris was acclaimed as Treasurer.

We are also proud to announce that Tanya Burnside was elected to complete the vacated vice presidential term according to the MAHCP Constitution.

Tanya has a long history with MAHCP governance, sitting on every committee at various times, as well has having extensive experience on the Central Table bargaining committee. Tanya is a Pharmacy Assistant and Staff Representative (now known as Member Advocate) from Thompson and we are excited to have such capable representation at the table officer level from Northern Manitoba.

It is also worth congratulating James Stevenson who also ran for this position. Both candidates put forth excellent cases to be named to this position. James is a Medical Laboratory Technologist with DSM and has taken on many roles over the past year, including Provincial Strike Coordinator and Chair of Nominations Committee.

We at MAHCP would also like to take this opportunity to thank Janet Fairbairn for having served as Vice President this past year.
