For the third year in a row, MAHCP board and staff will be marching in the Pride Winnipeg Parade and we invite all our members to join us!
Last year’s festival marked the 31st anniversary of the Pride Parade and its theme was “My First Pride.” It was well-attended, and we had a good turnout for MAHCP’s second participation in the Parade.
For 2019, we’re once again aiming for an even bigger and better turnout, so please join us on Sunday, June 2, as we show our Pride!
There’s no RSVP required: we’re asking members to attend the rally at 10:00 a.m. at the Manitoba Legislature and then assemble for the Parade at the marshalling area on Memorial Boulevard near the Legislature.
This year’s theme is Pride of Colour, which focuses on the diversity in GSRD (gender, sexual, and relationship diverse) community and sends a strong message of inclusion.
As Pride Winnipeg states on their website, this concept “seeks to amplify the voices of racialized minorities and help raise awareness of the barriers that may have prevented them from participating in previous Pride Festivals.”
The 2019 Pride Winnipeg Festival runs May 24 to June 2, and organizers announced earlier this year that the parade route will return to Portage Avenue.
MAHCP’s walking group at the parade will have a large banner there, backpack flags, and free T-shirts for those who walk with us. See attached poster for more information.
