June 13 to 15 marked our union’s inaugural participation at a NUPGE triennial convention.
The National Union of Public and General Employees is a union representing more than 400,000 individual members across the country from 13 component unions. MAHCP is proud to be a component, collaborating with NUPGE to advance labour movement priorities in support of frontline workers, including health-care professionals.
MAHCP delegates took much away from this Fredericton-based convention, designed to be a learning opportunity for labour leaders and a celebration of the spirit of the labour movement, equity, and inclusivity. The convention is shaped around a national resolutions debate that helps inform NUPGE’s advocacy goals.
MAHCP put forward a resolution for debate:
That NUPGE advocate for a coordinated national allied health strategy and human resources
action plan to address chronic labour shortages across the provinces. This would entail working
with stakeholders to ensure sufficient funding for education and training, recruitment
and retention initiatives, and wages.
