MAHCP President calls for a Strike Mandate
Dear Central Table bargaining unit members,
I know you are frustrated and angry. So am I.
Now we’ve come to the time to act, to show the Manitoba government how critical we are to the health care system.
As of today, Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, we do not have confirmed new dates with the employer for bargaining. Your committee is ready and willing to get a deal done, but it doesn’t appear the other side is.
You may have noticed posters going up in your workplaces describing the process for a strike vote. By giving your bargaining committee a strong mandate, you will be sending an equally strong message that we are beyond frustrated and no longer have any patience for further delays at the bargaining table.
This year, we are introducing something new.
For the first time, MAHCP will be conducting an electronic vote. We feel that this is the way of the future, and hope that it will result in more members participating in the decision-making process that is at the heart of a democratic organization like ours.
The E-vote will take place from Sept. 21 to 28.
The information packages have been sent out for those who have provided us with up-to-date personal email addresses. There will be a second email with voting instructions sent out this coming Monday again to those who have provided up-to-date personal email addresses.
If you have not received this information package, but would like to participate in the E-vote, please send us an email with your name and a personal email address to info@mahcp.ca
But that’s not all.
In addition to the E-vote, MAHCP will be holding in-person meetings in Thompson, Flin Flon, The Pas and two meetings in Winnipeg where those who did not vote online will have the opportunity to cast their ballot.
The meetings will take place:
September 30 – Days Inn, Thompson, 5-9pm
October 1 – Victoria Inn, Flin Flon, 5-9pm
October 2 – Kikiwak Inn, The Pas, 3-9pm
October 5 – Canad Inns HSC, Winnipeg, 7am-7pm
October 6 – Saints Peter and Paul Parish Centre, 400 Marion St., Winnipeg, 7am-6pm
Both Executive Director Lee Manning and I, as well as members of your Bargaining Committee and Executive Council, will be at these important meetings.
Even if you did vote online, you are welcome to attend one of these meetings and ask questions or share any concerns.
If you know of a co-worker who would like to vote electronically but did not receive any emails, please ask him or her to send an email to info@mahcp.ca indicating that they wish to participate in the E-vote.
It is time that we stand up and demand the respect that we deserve. Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
In Solidarity,
Bob Moroz
MAHCP President
