A strike vote meeting has been called for the members of the Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals who are part of the bargaining unit at the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities.

This meeting will take place on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at 5 p.m. at the MAHCP Provincial Office, 101-1500 Notre Dame Avenue. Light refreshments will be served.

Negotiations with the employer were progressing well until the bargaining committee reached monetary items. On June 11, the employer informed the committee that they have not received any funding letters to support any increased monetary compensation for the new collective agreement. As a result, the committee and MAHCP decided to apply for conciliation, which has been granted and currently we are awaiting dates.

In the meantime, your bargaining committee felt it was necessary to call a meeting to inform the members of what has occurred at the table, answer any questions, and hold a vote for a Strike Mandate. This mandate is crucial to showing the employer and funding sources that coming to the table with nothing is unacceptable.

“We’ve hit a critical point in our contract negotiations at SMD,” said Bob Moroz, President of MAHCP.

“What we need now is the strong showing of our members at this meeting, to help us achieve our desired goal of getting a collective agreement that is fair to our members.

Our office will be closed to in-person visitation from Dec 24 at noon to Jan 1, 2025. We will resume regular operations on Jan 2.
