We’re all allied health advocates. Is it time for you to get involved with MAHCP?

As we move forward together as a union after more than 55 years of health care representation, MAHCP’s council is revisiting our charter and strategic plan. As an organization, we’re aligning with like-minded organizations, tracking the efforts of other unions to ensure equity, and taking a seat at tables where we can have an impact. And we’re working on implementing a new and competitive Central Table contract.

We’re also taking every opportunity we can to champion you and celebrate you, just as we did during 2025 Allied Health Care Professionals Recognition Week. (View our list of Allied Health Week contest winners.)

As we shared with government in our pre-budget submission this year, MAHCP has four asks, and our advocacy supports these goals:

  1. Fund a new, competitive contract for allied health; Central Table members have ratified new agreements, but there is still much work left to do.
  2. Improve health employee benefits without raising employee costs;
  3. Commit to developing an Allied Health Workforce Plan; and,
  4. Expand and promote training opportunities for high-demand allied health professions.

As we keep pushing for achievements in these key areas, thank you for your patience with slow-moving system changes and needlessly difficult bargaining cycles.

I also want to introduce you to Noah Schulz (he/him), recently- appointed Provincial Director, Manitoba Health Coalition (MHC). The MHC is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that brings together community, labour, and everyday Manitobans to advocate for the preservation and expansion of universal, public health care.

With a PhD in Politics and a background in academic research and teaching, Noah will use his skills as an educator to build Manitobans’ collective capacity to improve the health care system together. As Noah picks up speed in his new position, you will begin to see him advocating for public health care alongside MHC’s founding member organizations, including MAHCP.

Finally, in mid-June, a delegation of council and staff members will head to the National Union of Public & General Employees (NUPGE) convention in Fredericton for the first time as a component union. As we meet with our allied health union peers from across Canada to propose national solutions to common challenges, we will be very proud to tell your story.

Manitoba’s allied health professionals show incredible resilience and determination, and we need your frontline expertise and insights. I encourage you to consider getting involved with MAHCP. Advocating for public health care is critical, and it takes many of us to make an impact.

In solidarity,

Jason Linklater, President
