Message from the President

On behalf of MAHCP Council and staff, thank you to everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting. For those who couldn’t join us, here’s a brief overview of the key themes and updates shared during the meeting.

This past year has been a defining one for MAHCP. Allied health professionals across Manitoba have shown unprecedented strength and unity — none more visible than during the Central Table strike earlier this year. It was the province’s first health-care strike since the 1990s and one of the shortest, thanks to the solidarity and resolve of MAHCP members who refused to accept less than fair. Your action made history and proved what’s possible when members stand together. But the work doesn’t end there. Many continue to face chronic understaffing, outdated equipment, and inequitable management practices that affect patient care.

Building Advocacy & Leadership
Over the past year, MAHCP has strengthened its voice at every level. We have advanced policy positions, earned media attention, and deepened relationships with decision-makers. Manitobans are beginning to understand what MAHCP members already knew: without allied health professionals, there is no functioning health-care system. MAHCP is calling on members to continue that momentum by stepping into roles such as Member Advocates, District Directors, Health & Safety committee representatives, and Labour Management groups. Every new voice makes our movement stronger.

Government Relations
There are signs of progress at the political level. The province has established a Health Care Retention and Recruitment Office, naming eight priority professions — five of them allied health. MAHCP continues to push for a human resources strategy that includes all allied health professions. A recent meeting with the new Deputy Minister of Health — the first held at MAHCP’s offices — signals a willingness to engage directly. MAHCP will leverage that relationship to press for solutions and accountability where bureaucracy has stalled.

Health & Safety
MAHCP continues to hold employers and government accountable through a principled, policy-driven approach to Health & Safety. Our goal is to capture attention where it matters and effect real change. Members will be kept informed as this work advances.

Thank you to all members for your continued commitment to your professions, your colleagues, and the Manitobans who rely on you. Together, we’ve proven that meaningful change is possible — and that it starts with standing strong for each other.

Keep reading below for some special AGM highlights, including our 2025 Honour Roll recipients, a video with highlights from the past three years, long-service staff recognition, and our acknowledgement of service for departing council members.

In solidarity,

“To members who are encouraged by progress: stay engaged. Implementation is where wins become real.

To members who are unhappy: critique belongs here, and your participation will make our next steps smarter and faster.”

Honour Roll Recipients

At this year’s AGM, we were proud to recognize two Honour Roll recipients for outstanding contributions to the union. Read about MAHCP members Bridget Sahulka and Karen Roth.

Bridget Sahulka

MRI Technologist
Dauphin Regional Health Centre

Read more about Bridget

Bridget has been an active and dedicated member of MAHCP for over ten years, consistently volunteering her time and energy to strengthen our union and support her colleagues. Throughout her involvement, she has taken on a variety of important roles, including labour management, member advocate, and workplace health and safety representative. Bridget also stepped up during critical moments, such as preparing for job action by committing to serve as a strike captain.

Her advocacy extends beyond her own profession—she has championed the rights of all members within MAHCP. Bridget is well known for keeping colleagues informed about our collective agreement, educating them on their rights, and guiding them on how to address concerns with management to ensure their voices are heard. She was instrumental in bringing the very first union board to Dauphin, creating a central and accessible space for updates, resources, and important union information.

Bridget’s strong relationships with our LRO and her willingness to speak up on behalf of members have provided a much-needed voice for our group during challenging times. Through her leadership, knowledge, and commitment, she has not only made a difference for individual members but has also strengthened our Association as a whole. Her passion for advocacy and communication has inspired others to become more involved with MAHCP, ensuring that our collective voice remains strong and effective.

MAHCP at NUPGE

As a component of the National Union of Public & General Employees, MAHCP is investing in allied health advocacy at the national level.

This past June, 16 MAHCP council and staff members attended their first triennial convention in Fredericton, New Brunswick, connecting with allied health union leaders from across Canada.

At the convention, MAHCP shared a video highlighting the union’s activities and priorities over the past three years.

Staff Recognition

The MAHCP staff is tremendous, continuously fighting hard for our members with the utmost professionalism.

This year marked an important milestone for Labour Relations Officer, Tania Wiebe – 5 years of service at MAHCP! Thank you, Tania, for your demonstrated commitment to our organization.

Executive Council

MAHCP’s Executive Council effectively represents the diversity of our professional occupations – the knowledge they bring as leaders provides thoughtful governance to our organization.
