If you’re employed in the Northern Health Region, please read below or click here to access an important memo from your employer regarding next steps for evacuees.
A message from President Jason Linklater to members affected by Flin Flon area wildfires
We understand that more than 17,000 area residents have been displaced by the Northern evacuation order, and many have been instructed to travel to Winnipeg.
As of the morning of May 29, all patients and residents from Flin Flon General Hospital, Flin Flon Personal Care Home, and Northern Lights Manor have been safely evacuated from the city.
The process of leaving everything behind is frightening and traumatic.
On behalf of MAHCP’s council and staff, thank you to our members who assisted with mass patient evacuations in spite of the looming threat and your own evacuation order, and to those who continue to support others. We cannot thank you enough for your commitment to helping those who cannot help themselves.
You can rest assured that MAHCP will be working with your employers to mitigate the impact of displacement. This is an evolving emergency and your imminent safety matters most. We encourage you to take care of yourselves and your loved ones during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you.
I also want to send a note of sincere gratitude to MAHCP members in Prairie Mountain Health, Winnipeg, and Southern Health-Santé Sud who are now providing uninterrupted care to evacuated patients transported from the Northern Health Region.
Thank you to you all for your bravery and strength, and stay safe.
If you have immediate questions or needs, please do not hesitate to contact your MAHCP Labour Relations Officer.
In solidarity,
Jason Linklater, MAHCP President
